As an instructional designer I am a facilitator of learning. How I choose to facilitate the learning will determine how my students will learn it. Module 1 made me thinking about viewing everything in terms of being a unit. I was also reminded that I need to make sure that I assess student knowledge prior to beginning a unit. Also, although I may feel like I have a million standards to assess I need to focus it down to just a couple of ideas that students should walk away with knowing. That is only possible with a lot of subject knowledge and planning. Within the unit I need to make sure that I have created tasks that are authentic and purposeful. If students see how it might apply outside of school then they are more likely to participate in the assignment.
